The Ana Liffey Drug Project Strategic Plan 2012 – 2014 was officially launched last Friday by the Lord Mayor of Dublin, Andrew Montague, in the Mansion House, Dublin.
Speaking at the launch, the Lord Mayor pledged support for the aspirations contained within the plan, most specifically, the plan to pilot a medically supervised injecting centre – offering a practical and safer alternative to public injecting.
The Lord Mayor said that, “it was important to find out does it reduce overall harm”.
While noting that this aspect of the strategic plan was “not the be all and end all of the Ana Liffey strategy”, Tony Duffin, Director of the Ana Liffey Drug project, welcomed the Lord Mayor’s support, stating that “it is refreshing for a politician to stand up, support controversial service delivery and make such a brave statement”.
