The National Community Detox Initiative supports people to access community detoxification. Community detox is a treatment option that supports people to reduce or stop their use of Methadone or Benzodiazepines through a structured non-residential process involving psychosocial and medical support available in the community. Community detox may be chosen as an alternative to in-patient residential detoxification, or as a necessary step toward meeting entry requirements for residential detox. The initiative is overseen by an expert steering committee who are leaders in addiction services from medical, community/voluntary and research fields.
